My mother in law inherited a group of first graders that had about 70% of them below reading benchmark. Most of the kids that were at or above reading level were in other classes. She was given the toughest ones. This is a progress chart throughout the year. With school finishing up, she now has 90%+ (compared to 30%) reading at or above grade level. If you know Marla, this shouldn’t come as a surprise, but it’s outstanding nonetheless. We were fortunate to have Jaxson in her class this year. He was above grade level at the start of the year but he has improved so much this year that he can read and spell anything now. I’m blown away by what he can do. Countless kids have not only learned to read because of her, but can now read to learn because of the skills she has taught them.
